Primary Airport/Gateway: Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in San José

Flight Routing from Atlanta: Direct flights available on Delta (4 hours). Alternative connections through Houston, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale (5-7 hours total). SJO airport modern and accessible with wheelchair assistance, accessible restrooms. Smaller domestic airports (Liberia) have basic accessibility.

Airport to Hotel Transportation: SJO to San José city center (20 min, $25-30 taxi). To Arenal (3 hours, $120-150 shuttle or $200 private). To Manuel Antonio (3.5 hours by shuttle). To Caribbean coast (4-5 hours). Pre-book accessible shuttles through hotels or Interbus company. Many eco-lodges include transfers. Consider domestic flights for longer distances.

Public Transportation Overview: Public buses available but not accessible and very basic. Most travelers use shared shuttles (Interbus, Grayline) - some accessible with advance notice. Rental cars possible but roads challenging (4WD needed for many areas). Best option: pre-book private accessible transfers between destinations or domestic flights (San José to Liberia/Tamarindo).

Private Transportation Options: Private accessible van with driver can be hired for multi-day trips. Most reliable way to tour multiple regions. Driver helps navigate accessibility challenges. [Expedia Ground Transport Link]

Luxury Transportation Options: Private luxury accessible vehicle with bilingual driver-guide for entire trip, includes all transfers and day tours, expert in accessible routes and lodges. [Expedia Premium Transport Link]
